Fifteen years ago two soon to be friends bumped into each other on a country lane; it was called New Road.
One was an already successful producer (Steve Hunt/ DJ Stix), the other a budding DJ and record collector (Dom Hodge). Over the coming months they would often meet up to discuss the wide range of music they loved, old and new. Five years later they decided they should start a project of their own and named it after the road they met on.
The idea was to take samples, sounds and snippets from all sorts of records – each artist coming from a different place, a different WALK OF LIFE.
These sounds were formed into audio collages and a collective of friends were invited to visit Steve's studio and play instruments and add ideas. During these sessions the musicians would often walk in the surrounding woods, talking and bouncing around ideas.
The result is a set of 12 instrumental tracks, fusing samples from dusty jazz, soul, folk and electronic records with live bass, guitar, keyboards, strings and horns. It also fuses the surroundings of the rural studio with the urban background of the musicians and samples that contributed.
These tracks have been sitting hidden for ten years, but now we feel it’s time to share them.
ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TO CHARITY.
We are giving any money you kindly pledge to a charity – Macmillan Cancer Support. They have cared for many people close to our hearts through some very challenging times and constantly need funding.
